Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, is set to arrive in Kolkata on Saturday night as part of a pivotal visit for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His trip is centered around launching an ambitious membership drive, aiming to enroll 10 million new members in West Bengal. This campaign comes at a crucial time as the party seeks to strengthen its foothold in a region where it has faced electoral challenges in recent years.
The membership drive will officially commence at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), where Shah is expected to address party workers and leaders. During his speech, he will emphasize the importance of dedication and meticulousness among party members, underscoring that any negligence in the enrollment process will not be tolerated. The BJP is determined to establish a solid organizational framework in preparation for upcoming elections.
In addition to launching the membership drive, Shah’s agenda includes discussions on several pressing issues affecting West Bengal. A significant focus will be the RG Kar incident, which has sparked widespread concerns regarding safety and security in the region. He is also anticipated to address the current state of women’s safety, a critical issue that resonates deeply with local voters and reflects broader national concerns.
To enhance the membership process, the BJP has revamped its strategy for member verification. Unlike the previous campaign that relied heavily on missed calls for enrollment, this time the party will implement a more systematic approach. New members who register via missed call will receive a link to complete their registration, which will require them to provide personal details such as their address and occupation. This method aims to ensure a more accurate and reliable membership database.
